Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)
The 8 week MBSR course, developed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn, University of Massachussetts Medical Center, is based on more than three decades of research and is now used in medical centers and organisations worldwide. Rigorous scientific research begun in 1979 by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn catalysed an explosion of studies throughout the 1980s and 1990s documenting the health benefits of mindfulness. In 2003 landmark studies in mindfulness and neuroscience lead to our understanding of the plasticity of the brain. Mindfulness creates new neural pathways which support emotional resilience and well being. Mindfulness is now being used in many areas worldwide, including at work, in leadership, and with compassionate care. MBSR participants worldwide report: - Physical and emotional transformation; increased energy - Discovery of powerful resources for dealing with stress - Enhanced stability in the midst of difficult situations This 27 hour course includes meditation instruction and gentle yoga, guided audio home practises, interactive exercises in small and large groups, discussion, and an online resource book, to enhance awareness. The class is suitable for those new to mindfulness and also those with experience. |
